Disinfection of Antibiotic-resistant Bacteria in Sewage and Hospital Effluent by Ozonation

چکیده

The present status of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria (AMRB) and antimicrobial-susceptible (AMSB) in hospital effluent, sewage treatment plant (STP) influent, STP secondary effluent (chlorination), (ozonation), river water were analyzed an urban Japan by a 2-year monitoring survey. results revealed the existence multiple AMRB grouped into six classes whose numbers at 19 to 2,800 CFU/mL, influent 9 3,133 1 148 (chlorination) N.D. 191 28 CFU/mL In case (ozonation) level was, however, quite low ranging from several roughly 1/10 1/100 concentrations detected (chlorination). bacterial community structure analysis indicates that only ozonation changed constitution phyla. Rates antimicrobial resistance high among MDRA (82% 79% influent), MDRP (35% 40%), MRSA (93% 87%). showed against chlorine but could be gradually disinfected ozonation. When model wastewater prepared mixing 1:9 ratio directly treated with ozone, both AMSB inactivated effectively variance time bacteria, accompanied change phyla similar observation (ozonation). Ozonation almost all target (>99.9%) after 10 min (CT value: 1.0 mg·min/L). Changing taxonomic diversity micro-organisms based on 16S rRNA gene sequencing not also removed genes (AMRGs) wastewater. As result study, recommendation was evoked operate for immediately flowing out, leading desirable contribution reduce environmental pollution, potential hazard human health caused infectious diseases. Extension opens new way assess risks associated spread aquatic environments keep environment safe maintain health. To our knowledge, this is first report show inactivation profiles real together direct ozonation.

Antibiotic resistant bacteria used as bioindicators of environmental pollution produced by tertiary treated sewage effluent

Oman depends on recycling treated wastewater as a solution to overcome the limited water supply. However, the risk of reusing recycled sewage water in the environment and public health is a major concern. Tertiary sewage treated effluent (TSE) was evaluated microbiologically from three sewage treatment plants (STPs). Mainly, all TSE from the three plants contained coliform and Escherichia coli....

Inactivation and regrowth of antibiotic-resistant bacteria by PAA disinfection in the secondary effluent of a municipal wastewater treatment plant.

Inactivation and microbial regrowth of penicillin-, ampicillin-, cefalexin-, tetracycline-, chloramphenicol-, and rifampicin-resistant bacteria were studied to explore risks associated with selection and regrowth of antibiotic-resistant bacteria after PAA disinfection. The results showed that after exposure to 20 mg/L PAA for 10 min, inactivation of ampicillin-resistant bacteria reached 2.3-log...

Chlorination of indicator bacteria and viruses in primary sewage effluent.

Wastewater disinfection is used in many countries for reducing fecal coliform levels in effluents. Disinfection is therefore frequently used to improve recreational bathing waters which do not comply with microbiological standards. It is unknown whether human enteric viruses (which are responsible for waterborne disease) are simultaneously inactivated alongside fecal coliforms. This laboratory ...

Disinfection of greywater effluent and regrowth potential of selected bacteria.

Chlorination and UV irradiation of RBC (rotating biological contactor)-treated light GW (greywater) was investigated. The ability of chlorine and UV to inactivate indictor bacteria (FC - Faecal Coliforms, HPC - Heterotrophic Plate Count) and specific pathogens (P.a. - Pseudomonas aeruginosa sp., S.a. - Staphylococcus aureus sp.), was assessed and their regrowth potential was examined. The RBC r...
